The field school will be open to students enrolled full-time at universities that have a student exchange agreement with Nagasaki University. The medium of instruction will be English and no Japanese language proficiency is required.

English Requirements

Program Fee

Tuition is waived. Fees associated with fieldwork may incur.
Students will bear the cost of airfare, local transportation, accommodation and food.
UPDATE: We have secured funds to cover the students' accommodation. This means that students will no longer have to bear the cost of accommodation themselves.

Accommodation will be arranged by Nagasaki University. In Nagasaki City, students will be staying at Hotel Siebold, located near the university (double-occupancy).
While at field sites, accomodations will also be arranged by the University.
The total cost of accommodation for the 3-week program will be around US$ 500.

Health Insurance

We recommend students to get a travel health insurance that covers the duration of their stay in Japan ahead of their arrival, as they will not be eligible for the Japanese government health insurance, which is issued for students studying longer than three months in Japan.

The type of visa required for this program is a tourist visa. Please check whether your country and Japan have signed the Visa Exemption Agreement. In that case, you do not need a visa to enter Japan for this program.
