We are delighted to announce that the nomination and application for Japan Anthropological Field School 2019 is now open!
Nomination: Please ask your university’s student-exchange coordinator to email your nomination to Kaori Hatsumi at email@example.com The deadline for nomination is December 15, 2018.
Application: After receiving the nomination form your home university, we will contact both the student and the coordinator regarding the application process. The application deadline is December 20, 2018.
How to Apply
a) Applying only to this summer program:

b) If you are applying for this summer program as part of your semester-long/year-long exchange at Nagasaki University, please apply from the link below, through the Student Exchange Program of the Center for Japanese Language and Student Exchange

*Please choose "Semester (One semester from Spring)" as your study period, although your stay at Nagasaki University is shorter than a semester. Please choose "School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences" as your "Undergraduate/Graduate Programs".
The field school will be open to students enrolled full-time at universities that have a student exchange agreement with Nagasaki University. The medium of instruction will be English and no Japanese language proficiency is required.
TOEFL PBT 550, TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.0; or the CEFR B2
(An official certificate from TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC or Cambridge English is required if you are a non-native speaker of English.)
Tuition is waived. Fees associated with fieldwork may incur.
Students will bear the cost of airfare, local transportation, accommodation and food.
Accommodation will be arranged by Nagasaki University. In Nagasaki City, students will be staying at Hotel Siebold, located near the university (double-occupancy). http://www.takumi-siebold.com/staying-guide.html
While at field sites, students will be staying at a local guesthouse called Moritaya.
The total cost of accommodation for the 3-week program (23 days from June 30 to July22, 2019) will be around US$ 600.
The Nagasaki University School of Global Humanities and Social Sciences is currently applying for funding to provide qualifying students with scholarship to participate in this field school. TBA.
We recommend students to get travel a health insurance that covers the duration of their stay in Japan ahead of their arrival, as they will not be eligible for the Japanese government health insurance, which is issued for students studying longer than three months in Japan.
The type of visa required for this program is a tourist visa. Please check whether your country and Japan have signed the Visa Exemption Agreement. In that case, you do not need a visa to enter Japan for this program.
